Program Overview
Green Voices is your chance to speak up about climate issues affecting your neighbourhood, participate in local climate action and learn practical skills while doing it!
Led by London-based charity Paint the Change and professional production house Off Centre Productions, Green Voices brings together young people from across East and Southeast London to build skills in journalism, media production, climate communication, and environmental sustainability.
The programme is part of a three-year local climate action campaign, working across local boroughs to improve green spaces, reduce waste, and create pathways into green jobs. Young people in Green Voices will help document this work, share community stories, and make sure youth voices are heard.
Programme Purpose and Vision
Green Voices is part of A Cleaner and Greener East London, a three-year campaign working across 5 boroughs in East and South East London in partnership with local organisations and residents.
The programme focuses on strengthening local environmental awareness and resilience through youth participation, creative communication, and community engagement. Through participation in the Green Voices Youth Citizen Journalism Network, young people will become active contributors to a three-year local climate action programme. This sustained involvement supports the development of long-term leadership skills and allows young people to take part in meaningful, ongoing community initiatives.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
Participants will receive training from experienced climate educators, alongside seasoned journalists, filmmakers, and digital storytelling professionals, ensuring high-quality learning and professional guidance.
You’ll learn how to spot and explain environmental stories using six simple questions journalists use:
Who is affected — and who is responsible?
What is the environmental issue?
When did it start and how long has it been going on?
Where is it happening — which street, park, river, or area?
Why is it happening, and why does it matter now?
How does it affect people’s everyday lives — health, money, safety, or wellbeing?
The content developed by the student will be published online on the Paint the Change social media pages and on the campaign's official website.
