Climate Educator – A Cleaner and Greener East London

Location: East and Southeast London
Contract: Freelance
Project start: February / March 2026

This role focuses on empowering residents, youth groups, schools, cultural organisations, and small businesses to adopt realistic, affordable, and measurable climate-positive practices. You will design and deliver interactive workshops on topics such as energy saving, waste reduction, recycling systems, food sustainability, ethical consumption, climate justice, and low-carbon living, as well as pathways into the green economy, tailored to the realities of diverse urban neighbourhoods. The emphasis is on participation, discussion, and practical learning rather than technical or academic training.

You will work closely with community partners in Hackney, Havering, Greenwich, Newham, and Barking and Dagenham, helping participants turn awareness into action through hands-on learning, toolkits, and follow-up support. The role also includes developing simple guidance materials, collecting impact data, and supporting funding and reporting requirements.

We anticipate at least six workshops delivered in the first six months of the project.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and deliver interactive sustainability and climate workshops tailored to different community contexts

  • Translate climate issues into clear, practical, and accessible learning, avoiding jargon

  • Work collaboratively with community partners and artists to align workshops with wider project activities

  • Adapt sessions for diverse audiences, including people with different literacy levels, languages, and learning needs

  • Contribute to basic reflection and learning processes linked to workshops

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Proven experience delivering community-based environmental education or programmes

  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills

  • Strong understanding of UK environmental policy and local authority frameworks

  • An ability to make climate action feel local, realistic, and relevant to everyday life
